Long Draw Spinnng Class - Feb. 6th 2-4 pm

Learning to Love Long Draw

Contrary to what the label suggests, the spinning drafting methods collectively known as Long Draw are used to spin very short fibers like cotton, qivuit or cashmere. Long draw is also used to spin woolen yarns which are softer, warmer and fluffy compared to worsted-spun yarns. Long draw is also often used in production spinning, such as in sheep-to-shawl contests. In this class, participants will learn the differences between worsted and woolen spun yarns. Then we will learn how to seamlessly transition from short backward draw into long draw. We’ll practice long draw spinning on a couple of different preparations of wool, and we may even play with some cotton! Learning this spinning technique opens the door to an infinite choice of fibers for spinning, so come to expand your horizons!

Pre-requisite: Registered participants should be able to spin a consistent singles yarn. While this may be a new technique to the spinner, this is not a Beginining Spinning class.
